The Mysterios got married on May 15, 1996. They dated for six years before tying the knot. They have two kids together, both of whom are in WWE. Dominik Mysterio is a two-time former Intercontinental Champion and a former AAA Mega Champion. His sister, Aalyah, recently started training at the Performance Center.
When will Rey Mysterio retire from WWE?
The exact date of Mysterio's retirement is unknown. Reports stated that there has been “chatter backstage” about his impending retirement in 2027, and WWE is starting to lay out plans for it.
He is 51 (and will turn 52 on Dec. 11), and Father Time is undefeated. While Mysterio is still performing at a high level, it makes sense that he wants to start winding down his career.
Article Continues BelowPlus, he has accomplished almost everything imaginable in WWE. He has won world championships, midcard championships, a Royal Rumble, and is a Hall of Fame inductee. He and his son also became the first father-son duo to win tag team gold in 2021.
Who retires him is the question on everyone's mind. The “Career Killer” Gunther—who has retired John Cena, Goldberg, and AJ Styles—is an option, though he has had limited interactions with Mysterio. They had one televised match during the Oct. 28, 2022, edition of Friday Night SmackDown. The “Ring General” retained the Intercontinental Championship during his 666-day reign.
A more likely option is his son, Dominik Mysterio. They previously fought at WrestleMania 39, with the elder Mysterio winning. They faced off again during the July 1, 2024, edition of Monday Night RAW, which Rey Mysterio also won. The last time they shared the ring was during the Oct. 5, 2026, edition of RAW. Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee lost to Judgment Day's Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh.
