It has almost been a year since John Cena's last appearance on Monday Night RAW, but the retired WWE legend will be returning soon.

WWE announced that Cena would be coming back for the Nov. 2, 2026, edition of RAW, which will emanate from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It's unknown in what capacity he will return, whether he will be an emcee or appear in a backstage segment. He won't, however, likely take any bumps, as he has ruled them out since hanging up the jean shorts.

Why is John Cena returning to WWE?

The reason for Cena's return to RAW is unknown. Maybe WWE is trying to spice up the final episode of the show before Crown Jewel on Saturday, Nov. 7.

He also hosted WrestleMania 42 earlier in the year. Perhaps he'll take on a similar role on RAW next week. Either way, fans only have to wait six days to find out.

Cena recently retired from in-ring competition in December 2025. He concluded his year-long retirement tour with a match against Gunther at Saturday Night's Main Event on Dec. 13.

He tapped out, losing his final match. Gunther has since retired AJ Styles and is currently feuding with Danhausen on Friday Night SmackDown.

The retirement tour gave Cena's fans around the world a chance to see him before he hung it up. During the run, he won a record-setting 17th world championship and turned heel for the first time in years. He also got to run it back with past foes like CM Punk, Randy Orton, and Styles.

Now, he is fully retired from being a WWE Superstar. While he has made a handful of appearances since, he will never wrestle again. He is still an actor, with his last project, Matchbox: The Movie, coming out earlier in the month on Apple TV.
