The Minnesota Timberwolves have reason to feel encouraged about Donte DiVincenzo's recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon. The guard's orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Martin O'Malley, believes his rehabilitation is progressing well enough for him to remain on track for a return during the 2026-27 season.

The Timberwolves shared footage of DiVincenzo's latest medical evaluation on Sunday. During the assessment, O'Malley told the 29-year-old that his recovery was progressing as hoped.

“We can easily say you're on schedule, if not certainly ahead of schedule,” O'Malley said. “When this happened the goal was to be back for this season. That's not even a question.”

DiVincenzo also sounded encouraged by the assessment, saying the doctor's feedback matched how he felt about his progress. He explained that the confirmation gave him more confidence in the recovery timeline.

“Basically his words match how I’m feeling,” DiVincenzo said. “It just gives you this feeling of just being optimistic of what you think your timeline is, is realistic and doable.”

The guard has been working toward a return since tearing his right Achilles during Game 4 of Minnesota's first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets in April. The injury ended his postseason and left him facing a lengthy rehabilitation process.

DiVincenzo previously spoke about learning from players who have dealt with similar injuries, including Damian Lillard. Their experiences helped him stay motivated during periods when progress felt slow.

Before the injury, DiVincenzo was an important part of Minnesota's rotation. He started all 82 regular-season games last season, averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 30.4 minutes per game. He also shot 37.9% from beyond the arc.
