The Sacramento Kings have endured a difficult start to the season and are yet to win after six games in the regular season. Their latest loss, a 136-105 blowout against the Memphis Grizzlies, has once again ignited potential trade talks for star man Domantas Sabonis.

Speaking to Tim Bontemps on The Hoop Collective, Brian Windhorst talked about the fact that Darius Acuff Jr. was once again the star man for the Kings, scoring 38 points on 25 attempts, while Sabonis, who finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds, only had five attempts in the game. Bontemps then revealed that Sabonis wants to leave, and the Kings would have obliged already if they had the option, per a post on X by ClutchPoints.

“Quite frankly, Sabonis wants out of there, and if they can move him, they would,” he said. “So he’s not happy, it is a bad situation.”

Windhorst talked about Sacramento’s poor start to the season, and claimed that any trade would still need to “make sense” for the franchise. That means that Sacramento are obviously looking to get good value in exchange for the 30-year-old who commands a yearly salary of more than $45 million and is under contract until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.

Sabonis saw his 2025-26 season end early due to a knee injury, during which he only played 19 games, averaging 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. This campaign, Sabonis has thus far averaged 16 points, 15.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.

Regardless, Sabonis has been Sacramento’s main man for the majority of the time he has spent with the team. The fact that his importance has dwindled despite the fact that the Kings are not winning games is bound to frustrate the big man.

However, it remains to be seen when, and what kind of value the Kings can get in exchange of the Lithuanian international. For the time being, he will look to return to form in order to attract interest from NBA teams.
