The Cleveland Guardians were originally scheduled to host the Tampa Bay Rays at 6 PM ET in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series on Thursday. 6 PM first pitch would have allowed fans time to leave work and school and get to Progressive Field for the ball game without too much trouble. Due to incoming poor weather in Cleveland, however, first pitch was ultimately moved up to 1 PM ET — on a Thursday. Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell took to X, formerly Twitter, in an effort to make sure fans can still attend Game 3 of the ALCS.
“Cleveland…. this is your note to send to your boss or teacher to miss work or school today for the game 🤣…. If you’re in school or work rn just leave they’ll understand! See yall in 2 hours @CleGuardians,” Mitchell wrote.
Mitchell has publicly supported the Guardians in recent years, especially during Cleveland's postseason runs. The Cavs star is throwing out the first pitch ahead of Game 3 as well.
The ALCS is currently tied 1-1. Cleveland earned a big 7-3 road win to open the series on Monday, but Tampa Bay bounced back with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday. The series now shifts back to Cleveland for three games.
Article Continues BelowGavin Williams is set to get the ball for the Guardians. He has been stellar so far during the postseason, pitching to a 1.54 ERA across 11.2 innings of work while striking out 24 hitters.
Williams will do everything he can to lead the Guards to a crucial Game 3 win. Fan support is huge in the postseason, so perhaps Mitchell's social media message will give the Guardians even more of a boost.
