For some reason, the Pittsburgh Steelers seem determined to trade their star players, and the Dallas Cowboys are listening. Other teams are contacting the Steelers, too. Furthermore, Jerry Jones teased trade conversations, but he couldn’t say Joey Porter Jr.’s name, according to a post on X by Jon Machota.
“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan said there are “conversations going on” right now to potentially upgrade their roster. He wouldn’t specifically comment on Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. to avoid tampering.”
The Cowboys are off to a 1-2 start after a surprise loss to the Giants, an easy win over the Commanders, and a tough last-second loss to the Ravens. Their defense has been hit with a ton of injuries, and their secondary is especially thin.
Cowboys looking for upgrades on defense
The Cowboys tried to convince everybody they did what they needed to do to fix their. Their draft focused on defense, and they hired a young hot-shot coordinator. However, they couldn’t have foreseen all of the injuries.
Among the key ones are linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, cornerback Cobie Durant, safety Malik Hooker, cornerback Shavon Revel, safety Jalen Thompson, and safety PJ Locke.
Of course, defensive coordinator Christian Parker still has questions to answer despite the personnel issues. His play call at the end of the Ravens game has undergone scrutiny, even though head coach Brian Schottenheimer defended him, according to NBC Sports.
“I liked the [defensive] call,” Schottenheimer said. “We wanted to stay sticky. But at the end of the day, they ran two ins. It’s actually a play we run quite a bit of. The bottom line is you’ve got to make the ball go to the first one, not the layer that they hit to Zay Flowers. That’s where we have to be better.”
Yes, the Cowboys have to be better on that side of the ball. Adding a player like Porter would help. But, of course, he would have to stay healthy. Porter is trying to come back from a back injury and hasn’t gotten on the field yet.
