The Milwaukee Brewers announced that Brandon Woodruff is on the World Series roster after not playing since early July due to an injury issue in his throwing shoulder. With Game 1 against the Tampa Bay Rays scheduled for Friday, Woodruff opened up about his return from injury.

The 33-year-old right-hander informed media members that he fully expects to play a part in helping Milwaukee win a title, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports. Woodruff told the Brewers he didn't want to be picked just for the sake of it, but to ensure he can play and help with the club chasing a World Series win.

“Brandon Woodruff says he told management that he didn't want to be a ‘charity pick,' but wanted to be chosen for the roster because he can help the Brewers win the World Series,” Nightengale reported.

Exactly what kind of role the nine-year veteran will play is currently unknown. Manager Pat Murphy has relied on a rotation consisting of Jacob Misiorowski, Logan Henderson, Dustin May, Robert Gasser, and Shane Drohan. So, either Woodruff will get a start at some point during the series against the Rays, or he may come out of the bullpen and help as a reliever.

However it plays out, the Brewers will be glad to have the two-time All-Star back on the mound. He was on pace for another solid campaign before the injury knocked him out for the regular season. Woodruff enters the World Series with a 2.98 ERA and 0.838 WHIP with 47 strikeouts through 45.1 innings pitched this year.
