The Portland Trail Blazers have waived former first-round pick Jeremy Sochan just days before opening the 2026-27 regular season against the Phoenix Suns.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported the move Saturday via X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The Trail Blazers have waived Jeremy Sochan,” Stein wrote.

Sochan, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, signed a non-guaranteed deal with Portland in August after finishing last season with the NBA champion New York Knicks. The 23-year-old appeared in all four of the Trail Blazers' preseason games, averaging 6.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 10-for-16 from the field and 4-for-5 from 3-point range.

His departure leaves Portland with 17 players, including three players on two-way contracts, and one open standard roster spot.

Sochan split the 2025-26 campaign between the San Antonio Spurs and Knicks. He averaged 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist while shooting 47.5% from the field across 28 games with San Antonio. The Spurs waived him in February after he fell out of their rotation.

Sochan subsequently joined New York and appeared in 16 regular-season games, averaging 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 6.9 minutes per contest while shooting 56.7% from the field. He remained with the Knicks through their championship run, which culminated against his former Spurs team in the NBA Finals.

The former Baylor standout spent his first three-plus seasons in San Antonio and earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2023.

Portland will now finalize its roster before beginning the regular season Wednesday against Phoenix at Moda Center. The Trail Blazers and Suns are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. PT on Oct. 21.
