If, as expected, quarterback Tyson Bagent starts for the Bears today, he’ll be the third quarterback to start for Chicago this year. In only four games.
Via NBC Sports research, the Bears will be the first team to have three different quarterbacks start the first four games of a season since the 1997 Jaguars. (They were Mark Brunell, Steve Matthews, and Rob Johnson.)
The Bears resisted announcing the Week 4 starter vs. the Jets. (While it’s not a violation of the rules, the NFL should consider requiring all teams to name their starting quarterbacks at some point during the week preceding a game.)
The Jets will be trying to end an NFL-record 20 straight games without an interception.
Bagent, who is from West Virginia, will be facing former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. After leading the league in interceptions last year with 17, Smith has thrown none through three games, and he leads all qualifying quarterbacks with a 75.5-percent completion rate.
The Jets have lost two in a row, and they’re 1-14 against teams with a winning record since 2024, including 11 straight losses.
