Coming into the 2026-27 NBA season, one of the most intriguing new pairings is Anthony Edwards and LaMalo Ball with the Minnesota Timberwolves. But while this is the first time the duo has played together, Edwards has been a longtime fan of his new backcourt partner going all the way back to their high school days.
“I remember in high school I saw him score 92 points,” Edwards recalled. “So I’ve always been a fan of him. I never let them try to put us against each other. I always told … like nah he’s hard.
Anthony Edwards then admitted that his high school career high in points was only around 40, compared to LaMelo Ball’s 92, and that he was not as good in high school as his new Timberwolves teammate.
Article Continues BelowBall’s 92-point game came during his sophomore year at Chino Hills High School in a win against Los Osos High School. His older brother LiAngelo Ball was sidelined that game and it was coming off the Huskies’ first loss of the season to Oak Hill Academy. Earlier that year, LiAngelo had scored 72 points in a game.
Throughout his NBA career thus far, Ball has wowed fans with the same sort of exciting, flashy guard play he always displayed. And now he’s on the best team, roster-wise, that he’s ever played with in the NBA.
Ball is coming off a year in which he was healthy, appearing in 72 games, just shy of his career-high 75. He averaged 20.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.2 steals with splits of 40.7 percent shooting from the field, 36.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 89.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
