The Association is back! NBA commissioner Adam Silver believes the 2026-27 season is loaded with talented teams.
Silver is also keeping Mexico City in the conversation as a potential expansion destination, although Las Vegas and Seattle remain the league's primary targets.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday morning, Silver reiterated that expansion is still several seasons away before suggesting Mexico City could eventually enter the picture.
"We're still a few seasons away from actual expansion taking place..
We've been public about the fact that we're looking at Las Vegas and Seattle..
Maybe down the road there's Mexico City which is the largest city in North America" ~ Adam Silver#PMSLive pic.twitter.com/ECcY0HgNvY

Silver mentioned Mexico City in recent comments as well, doubling down on the possibility of the NBA eventually expanding beyond the United States and Canada.
Mexico City would give the league access to a metropolitan area with approximately 22 million residents. That population could provide a substantial fan base for a franchise, particularly given the NBA's existing presence in Mexico through its regular-season games in the city.

Las Vegas and Seattle remain the NBA's primary expansion considerations, and Silver made clear that the process is not imminent.
For now, Mexico City remains a possibility rather than a concrete plan. But Silver bringing it up again suggests the NBA is willing to consider a wider range of destinations as it weighs the future of the league.
