The Philadelphia 76ers are currently gearing up to get their new season underway with a tough road game vs the New York Knicks. The 76ers have built a superteam of sorts this offseason, although there is skepticism about how much their core of stars, including Joel Embiid, will be willing to sacrifice in order to get everyone touches.
Embiid recently made headlines when he stated that “I'm against the concept of sacrificing. I think the way I explained it was you do what you do best, and we're going to support you. … I don't think anybody has to take a backseat,” per Kris Rhim of ESPN.
Now, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania has weighed in on that take.
“Joel Embiid said the other day that there's no sacrifice… I have to say, there's going to be sacrifice. Someone or some player is going to have to sacrifice,” he said, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.
Charania likened the situation to Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors changing their approach when Kevin Durant joined them a decade ago.
Who will get the most shot attempts, touches, and run the clutch-time offense are certainly fair questions to wonder about this 76ers team heading into the season, as are concerns about health, three-point shooting, and perimeter defense, as well as head coach Nick Nurse's ability to make the confounding but talented new parts mesh.

In any case, Philadelphia and New York are slated to get things underway at 7:00 pm ET from New York City.
