The Philadelphia 76ers are just hours away from kicking off their new season against the New York Knicks on the road. The 76ers enter this season with legit championship aspirations after adding LeBron James and Jaylen Brown to the mix this summer.

Prior to the game, the Knicks will be hoisting their banner from last season's NBA championship, and one person who knows a thing or two about having a ring night spoiled is 76ers offseason addition Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

“I've had a few ruin my nights. It's not fun. … If it's their ring night, they gotta take the first loss,” he said, per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, KCP has won multiple championships in his career, including one with James on the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2020 season. While neither James nor Caldwell-Pope is the same level of player they were during that triumph, they are still both serviceable veterans who figure to play a sizable role in what the 76ers are trying to accomplish this year.

The 76ers are viewed by many as one of the most fascinating basketball experiments in recent NBA history, with the team hoping that its raw talent and star power will be enough to drown out concerns about perimeter shooting, defense, and, perhaps most importantly, the availability of their key players.

Meanwhile, the Knicks are returning most of the same core from a year ago, one that swept the 76ers out of the playoffs in the second round last year, which will surely be on the minds of the Philadelphia players who are still on the team from that embarrassment.

In any case, tipoff is set for 7:00 pm ET on Tuesday.
