Could the 2026-27 NBA season be Draymond Green's final one with the Golden State Warriors? The last few seasons have been a mystery for the Warriors' forward, especially since he has been the subject of multiple trade rumors.
As he prepares for his 15th NBA season, all of which have been with Golden State, Green has a new outlook on his career as a whole and seems to be at peace with the mindset of this potentially being his final year alongside Stephen Curry.
“I would love to retire a Golden State Warrior. However, I’m also not Steph Curry, right? So I don’t have every luxury that Steph Curry has, and that’s okay,” Green told CNBC Sport. “It’s such a rare thing to be on one team your entire career. And if I can accomplish that feat, I would love to.”
Green talked about how he wouldn't have any “ill-feelings” toward the franchise if this is his final year with the Warriors, since he knows he is nearing the end of his career and Golden State will need to make some hard business decisions.
“I would love to play basketball next year…if that’s not here, I’m not going to retire,” Green continued. “If I don’t (fit into the team's plans), great. But I’m extremely grateful for the journey that I’ve been on here.”
Curry has also spent his entire career with the Warriors as he prepares for his 18th year in the league and has made it clear that he intends to stay with Golden State until he retires. While both players have been essential to the dynasty the Dubs built for themselves and the franchise's four title runs over the last decade, everyone knows that the Warriors are Steph's team.
He will forever go down as the greatest player in team history, and Curry's name will be synonymous with the franchise for ages to come, just like Dirk Nowitzki with the Dallas Mavericks and Tim Duncan with the San Antonio Spurs.
That is what Green means when he talks about the “luxury” Curry has with the Warriors.
If he could control things, Green would spend the rest of his career with Golden State and retire with the team that drafted him 35th overall in 2012, believing that he could become one of the greatest second-round picks of all time.

Still, Green is only focused on the year ahead with the Warriors and is “blessed” for everything he's achieved alongside Curry and head coach Steve Kerr.
“I don’t know how many years I have left in the NBA, let alone at this place. For me, it’s all about enjoying what’s in front of us.”
Green and the Warriors will open the 2026-27 season on the road against Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.
