The Philadelphia 76ers had some big additions during the offseason, as everyone knows that LeBron James and Jaylen Brown joined the team. Unfortunately, they had some departures as well, and it was one off the court that touched many 76ers fans. Longtime public announcer Matt Cord announced his retirement six months ago, but weeks before training camp, he made the decision to come back for at least one more season.

The decision to come back seemed pretty simple for Cord, and it probably would make anybody want to return.

“When I retired, I wanted to retire; I wanted to have more time for myself. They made a trade for Jaylen Brown on July 1. And then on July 24, LeBron James signed with the Sixers,” Cord said.

The Sixers announce that Matt Cord will return as their PA announcer for one more season, after previously saying the 2025-26 NBA season would be his last.

Some 76ers fans didn't want it any other way, and with star talent like James and Brown in the fold now, only one person should be announcing them, and it's Cord. The surprising news is that the 76ers weren't able to find a replacement for Cord after he announced his retirement.

“I'm just humbled by the amount of people who reached out. Everywhere we went this summer, strangers saying, ‘You coming back?' and I'm honored,” Cord said.

Now, it truly feels like it's time for the season to get going soon. The good news is that training camp and Media Day are just a few weeks away, and all of the players will be in the building at once, which is what everyone has been waiting for.

Over recent weeks, fans have seen James, Brown and Tyrese Maxey work out together, giving people a sneak peek of what's to come when they share the floor. Joel Embiid has also been working out, and he looks slimmer heading into this season, which could be good for his health.
