Arsenal blow lead at Wolves in major title setback as fight breaks out after late drama

Arsenal have been dealt another major Premier League title blow as they chucked a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at lowly Wolves.

The Gunners took the lead inside three minutes at Molineux through Bukayo Saka before Piero Hincapie added a second on 56 minutes.

However, a stunning strike from Hugo Bueno restored life for Wolves, who then levelled in stoppage time via a Riccardo Calafiori own goal.

It means Arsenal have won only two of their last seven fixtures in the Premier League.

They remain five points clear at the summit, but Manchester City can close the gap to two points by beating Newcastle United on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s next match sees them go to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, so this weekend could be pivotal in the title race.

The two sides will also meet at the Etihad Stadium in April.

Tensions between the two sides boiled over at full-time as Gabriel Jesus pushed Yerson Mosquera, sparking a brief skirmish on the pitch.

Players and staff from both benches spilled onto the pitch in what were crazy post-match scenes.

Arsenal slip up once again

Arsenal players were visibly gutted by the result, which has inflicted another huge blow to their hopes of a first title since 2004.

They have won only three of their eight Premier League matches so far in 2026 – against Bournemouth, Leeds United and Sunderland.

Back-to-back 0-0 draw with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest were followed by the 3-2 defeat at Manchester United.

And then last week, it was Brentford who nicked a point with a 1-1 draw, during which Arsenal led.

Wednesday night’s trip to Wolves, who still sit rock-bottom of the table, was the perfect opportunity for them extend their lead.

A win would have sent them seven clear of City, but their latest result has only added to the pressure on their shoulders.

After this weekend’s fixtures, City could find themselves within two points of top spot with a game in hand.

They would need to beat Newcastle and then watch Arsenal lose the north London derby to Spurs.

Saka reacts to draw

“It’s very flat,” Saka said to Sky Sports when he was asked about the atmosphere within the Arsenal squad.

“We’re very disappointed with the result, especially how we played in the second half, far from the level that we’ve set this season.”

On a potential reoccurring theme of letting teams back into matches, he added: “Not so much about a reoccurring theme.

“It’s time for us to reflect on the last few performances and just fix the issues immediately so we can get back to winning games and going on a run, build momentum because we’ve lost that a bit.”

Saka then said: “I just think we need to just get back to our level, just do the basics right.

“We’ve got more than enough quality in this team to win games, especially the games where we’ve been dropping points recently.

“So we just need to fix that and that’s all our focus is right now.”
