Arne Slot has got some front, Everton play better football than crap Liverpool

Arne Slot came under fire following Liverpool’s defeat at Wolves before being told even rivals Everton play better football than his side.

The Reds suffered a huge blow in their pursuit of a place in the top four and guaranteed entry into next season’s Champions League with a stoppage-time defeat against the Premier League’s bottom side.

Andre’s deflected effort in the fourth minute of added time handed Wolves a 2-1 win, sparking wild celebrations at Molineux.

The Brazilian’s winner was the first time ever that a team in the relegation zone had scored a last-minute winner against the reigning Premier League champions.

The victory also ensured Rob Edwards’ side secured back-to-back victories for the first time since last April.

For Liverpool and boss Slot, it was a ninth league defeat of what has been an underwhelming Premier League campaign.

‘Joyless’ Premier League

The defeat opened the door for Slot to receive backlash after his comments on Monday criticising the quality of football on offer in the Premier League this season.

The Liverpool head coach spoke out on the dependency of set-pieces among a host of Premier League clubs, something that has sparked debate in recent weeks.

Ahead of the trip to Molineux, Slot said: “You have to accept it. I think it’s mainly here in the Premier League. If I watch other leagues I don’t think there’s so much emphasis on set-pieces.

“If I watch an Eredivisie game, which I still do, I see goals being disallowed and fouls on goalkeepers being given and I think ‘wow, that’s a big difference’. Here, you can almost hit a goalkeeper in his face and the referee still says, ‘just go on’.

“Do I like it? My football heart doesn’t like it. If you ask me about football, I think about the Barcelona team from ten, 15 years ago. Every Sunday evening you were hoping they would play.

“Now, most of the games I see in the Premier League are not for me a joy to watch but it’s always interesting because it’s so competitive.

“That is what makes this league great because there is so much competitiveness. Everyone can win against everyone.”

Stinging criticism

Following Tuesday’s defeat, talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy fired back at the Dutchman for his outlandish comments while slamming his side’s performance against a side seemingly destined to go down.

“Arne Slot is giving it about set pieces this week but they’re right up there with the most boring teams in the league themselves… elsewhere, Everton, they’re flying. They play better football than Liverpool,” O’Hara began The Sports Bar.

Meanwhile, Cundy threw some daggers of his own at the reigning Premier League champions.

He said: “What on earth was that? Liverpool churn out some putt, mate. They are terrible, they are a terrible team. Arne Slot has the gall…

“The best football I’ve seen, not just in the Premier League, but under Jurgen Klopp, that was a team you could watch, even if you didn’t support Liverpool. This Liverpool team, mate, bore you to tears.

“I don’t know what’s going on. They are terrible, mate. They are truly terrible. And they got what they deserved.

“And Slot criticising, you know, saying it’s ‘not his idea of football’. Is that his idea of football? He has got some front in. Turning out that crap.

“If I was a Liverpool fan, I would be fuming. Because that was crap. That was terrible.”

Slot was also on the receiving end of criticism from talkSPORT’s SImon Jordan on Tuesday morning.

The former Crystal Palace owner claims Slot’s demeanour has pivoted compared to last season due to his side’s poor title defence.

“It’s funny how he’s mentioned it this season when his team’s not producing much, isn’t it?,” Jordan said.

Jordan was also critical of Slot’s comments

“I didn’t hear him saying ‘I don’t like the Premier League’ when he was winning last year.

“Now he’s getting found out a little bit for the fact it’s his team.

“Whilst I think he’s a relatively calm and balanced manager, what I’ve heard from him this year is the constant reference to the things he hasn’t got or the things that haven’t worked out.

“And here we go again.”

Slot, whose team were the beneficiaries of three set-piece goals during last weekend’s 5-2 win over West Ham, must now prepare his side for another trip to Molineux in the FA Cup on Friday night, live on talkSPORT.
