Westwood finished with a score of 12-under par to produce the best result of his LIV Golf career.

The 52-year-old, who holds the record of playing in the most majors without winning one, was asked about a recent career decision that hilariously took a wrong turn.

What was the question that left McCoist in stitches?

Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor asked: “You recently replaced your wife as your caddie with Billy Foster. How did you break that news to her?”

Westwood briefly paused before brilliantly replying: “I wondered where you were going with that!”

The 52-year-old’s response left McCoist in fits of laughter.

“Westy, so did I. I was panicking there,” the Rangers and Scotland legend said.

Westwood then added: “I was panicking as well. I wondered what was happening. I’ve only been away five weeks!”

He then smartly covered all bases with his wife saying: “I’m really missing you darling. I’m looking forward to seeing you again.”

Once the laughter subsided, Westwood was quizzed on the plight of boyhood club Nottingham Forest and their fight to avoid the drop.

The Reds are currently 17th in the table and sit outside the bottom three on goal difference.

As it stands, Forest are in a three-way battle for survival alongside West Ham and Tottenham with just eight games remaining.

And if the stakes couldn’t be any higher, Forest head to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday in a crunch Premier League clash.

But up first is Thursday’s Europa League round-of-16 second leg tie at FC Midtjylland with Forest aiming to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

Forest’s profligacy

“We just can’t score can we, that’s our problem. We’ve missed Chris Wood all season,” Westwood said ahead of a crucial week for the club.

“We’ve taken a 20-goal man out of the team and not replaced him.

“We’re getting right to the front door but we’re huffing and puffing and can’t blow it down.

“Morgan Gibbs White is our leading goalscorer with seven which is remarkable really,” he added.

“We beat them (Spurs) 3-0 at our place and they’re worse at home than they are away. Although they did get a good result against Liverpool last weekend.

“I just hope us playing in Europe doesn’t tire the lads out and detract from our performance on Sunday.”
