All-rounder Calvin Harrison signs two-year extension with Northamptonshire
South African all-rounder Calvin Harrison has signed a new two-year contract with Northamptonshire, extending his tenure with the Steelbacks till 2029.
The 28-year-old made a loan switch to Northants in 2025 from Nottinghamshire and signed a permanent deal with the Steelbacks later that year after the culmination of the season. In his first full season at the club, he has been a vital part of the team in the County Championship Division Two and the T20 Blast.
“We’re extremely happy that Calvin has re-signed with us for a further 2 years, he’s been a really important player for us since coming from Notts. He’s a leader in the group and a player that continues to strive for excellence on and off the field. It’s another important signing for us moving forward as we develop our squad for the future," head coach Darren Lehman said in an official statement.
Batting at number three in the County Championship, Harrison has scored 477 runs in 13 innings, averaging 39.75 and striking at 61.86. He scored two centuries and one half-century, which included a mammoth 153 against Kent in a marathon knock. He also scored an unbeaten 92 in a successful fourth-innings chase against Gloucestershire. He has also picked up 16 wickets in eight matches with his leg spin.
He has picked up 18 wickets in 11 matches in the 2026 T20 Blast, at an economy rate of 7.05 and best figures of 5 for 9. He has also picked up the best figures by a bowler in the Men's Hundred, picking up 5 for 11 in the 2023 season for the now-defunct Manchester Originals.
“I’m really happy to be extending my time here at Northamptonshire. It’s a brilliant dressing room with a top-class spirit, and Boof [Lehmann] and all the staff have been excellent so I’m looking forward to continuing my time at the club," Harrison said in the statement.
Northants topped the Central & West Group of the T20 Blast, recording 36 points from nine wins and three losses in 12 matches. They take on Gloucestershire in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, July 15.
