Alexander Zverev stands above the haters after finally winning first major at French Open

Alexander Zverev has been fighting to gain his first Grand Slam title for years. His journey finally became a success as he earned a five-set triumph over Flavio Cobolli of Italy and that allowed him to celebrate in Paris with the title of French Open champion.

He became the first German man to win a Grand Slam singles title since Boris Becker won the Australian Open in 1996. While some may claim the title doesn’t mean as much because Carlos Alcaraz didn’t play due to injury, Jannik Sinner lost in the second round and Novak Djokovic lost in the third round, Zverev was thrilled with his accomplishment.

Zverev was defiant an unapologetic about coming away with the French Open title. “Now no matter what happens, I will always be a Grand Slam Champion. Nobody can take that away from me. Maybe that does give me some freedom. Maybe my mind will just be a little bit calmer when I play a final. Meaning that even if I lose it, I’ll still be a grand slam champion.”

Zverev gained the victory by the score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (7-5), 6-1. This triumph allowed him to overcome the close-call losses he had in the past in the U.S. Open (2020), French Open (2024) and Australian Open (2025).

Cobolli put up a huge fight and had gained momentum when he tied the match at 2-2 with his fourth-set tiebreaker victory, Zverev had the finishing kick to dominate in the fifth set. The crowd at the French Open supported Cobolli throughout the majority of the match, but Zverev had earned their respect when he pulled out the victory in the final set.
