Alex Highsmith pinpoints 2 things that can help Steelers take a leap
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be going into the next season with the same high expectations, despite some changes to the team. One of the biggest changes was Mike Tomlin stepping down as head coach, which led to Mike McCarthy taking the job.
Now, they’ll be looking to get back to the playoffs and make a deep run, and Alex Highsmith knows what the team needs to do in order to take the next step, specifically the defense.
“The top thing’s really communication and detail. … You see times when we weren’t a good defense last year, it’s when we weren’t communicating the way we should,” Highsmith said via Brian Batko of PG Sports.
The Steelers’ defense has always been a staple of their franchise, and it’s the key to their success almost every year. They have the players on that side of the ball to be disruptive, and if they’re all on the same accord, there’s no doubt that they could be a top unit next season.
If the offense is able to match the defense’s level of play, then the Steelers could be in for another good season. They were able to re-sign Aaron Rodgers, and he was in the building for voluntary workouts. There was uncertainty whether Rodgers would return to the Steelers, but it seems like there was one reason why he came back, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
“It’s my belief that Rodgers is back in Pittsburgh because the Steelers helped him rekindle his love of football,” Breer wrote.
The offense has the potential to be better than last year’s after the addition of Michael Pittman Jr., and with the chemistry already built with the other players, things could look better this season.
