76ers’ VJ Edgecombe drops defiant message amid 2-0 deficit in Knicks series

After getting crushed in Game 1 against the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers gave a much more spirited effort in Game 2 at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately for Nick Nurse and company, it wasn’t enough to come back and get a win to even the series as the Knicks escaped with a 108-102 win to take a 2-0 lead.

With this loss, it seems on paper as if the Sixers are down and out. They just got done with a grueling seven-game upset of the Boston Celtics, and the Knicks have been the better team of the two all season long. Now, Philly is headed home and almost certainly needs two wins to have any chance of winning this series.

But the 76ers aren’t going to give up easily. They already completed one unthinkable comeback this postseason, coming back from 3-1 down to beat the Celtics, and they have firm belief that they can pull off another. After Game 2, VJ Edgecombe promised that Philly isn’t going anywhere, via Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire.

“Don’t give up. We’re not gonna give up,” Edgecombe said. “They did what they have to do and protect home court, you know? So, we won’t give up. We’re gonna keep playing hard regardless.”

Edgecombe was one of the best rookies in his class all season long, and he has stepped up in the playoffs as one of Philadelphia’s top scorers. He has reached double figures in eight of the Sixers’ nine postseason games and starred with 23 points in the Game 7 win over Boston. His best game of these playoffs game in Game 2 against the Celtics, when he dropped 30 points and 10 rebounds to help Philly get a key road win.

The Baylor product didn’t have his very best stuff in Game 2 against the Knicks on Wednesday, finishing with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and four turnovers. If he wants to help the Sixers turn this thing around back at home, he will have to take it up another notch and find some of his best basketball during this stellar rookie campaign.
