76ers’ Paul George goes NSFW to explain Game 1 troubles vs. Knicks

The Philadelphia 76ers are licking their wounds after they absorbed a 39-point beatdown against the New York Knicks, 137-98, in Game 1 of their second-round series in the playoffs at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

The Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson, banked on a scoring surge in the second quarter, 41-26, to break the game wide open. They never relinquished the lead, going up by as much as 40 points en route to the one-sided win.

Fatigue may have settled in for the 76ers, who just came off a seven-game duel with the Boston Celtics in the first round, climbing back from a 3-1 deficit.

Paul George did not offer excuses after their lopsided loss, acknowledging that the Knicks played well. He, however, remained unfazed.

“We had breakdowns tonight, but they also shot the s*** out of the ball. They were hot, they came out hot, they came out on fire. But it’s a game of adjustments. We’ll make adjustments. We’ll see where we can get better at,” said George in the video posted by SNY.

“It’s just one (game). They don’t get any extra points for going up big tonight.”

George led the 76ers with 17 points, including four three-pointers, three rebounds, and three assists.

Joel Embiid was held to 14 points on 3-of-11 shooting and four rebounds, while Tyrese Maxey had 13 points on 3-of-9 shooting and four turnovers.

The Knicks shot 63% from the field, including 19-of-37 from the three-point line.
