76ers’ Nick Nurse honors late brother before Game 2 vs. Knicks
Nick Nurse is back with the Philadelphia 76ers after being away from the team before Game 2 of their 2026 NBA Playoffs series against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Nurse attended his brother Steve Nurse’s funeral following the 76ers’ 137-98 loss in Game 1 to New York.
Ahead of Wednesday night’s showdown against the Knicks, Nurse opened up about the support he and his family have received after Steve’s passing, also saying that his brother would love to see him coaching.
“It means a lot to my family. I appreciate Coach [Mike] Brown and what he said yesterday at his press conference. I’m here coaching, my brother would expect me to be,” Nurse told reporters(h/t Knicks Videos).
One can only imagine what Nurse is truly feeling amid the pressure of a big challenge he and the 76ers are facing against the Knicks after saying his final goodbye to his brother, who passed away at age 62 last Wednesday.
At the same time, Nurse knows that he’s got a job to fulfill for the 76ers, who are playing in their first conference semifinals series for the first time since 2023.
It has been quite a ride so far in the postseason for Nurse and the 76ers. They lost three of the first four games in their first-round matchup against the powerful Boston Celtics, but they found a way to recover and complete a series comeback win. In Game 1 of the Knicks series, however, Philadelphia was crushed by New York to the tune of a 127-98 score.
