37-year-old PFL star scores out of this world first-round spinning elbow KO in Belfast

Dean Garnett scored a highlight-reel knockout at PFL Belfast on Thursday night.

The 37-year-old from Liverpool caught opponent Ciaran Clarke with a perfectly timed spinning backfist that left the Irishman out cold on the canvas.

Garnett was forced to overcome adversity early doors in the bantamweight bout on the PFL Belfast card, having been caught with some nasty left hooks in the opening exchanges.

But as we’ve seen so many times in Garnett’s career, like when he exchanged 14 knockdowns in a Fight of the Year candidate with Lewis McGrillen in 2024, the scouser rallied on.

Moments later, Clarke was on the front foot and had Garnett pressed up against the fence.

Clarke stepped in with a straight left before Garnett spun around and cracked the Irishman with a slick elbow to finish the fight.

“What timing! What a performance! That was a great spinning elbow,” Dan Hardy said from the commentary booth.

PFL’s Sean O’Connell added: “That sounded like a home run from a wooden bat!”

Garnett eyeing PFL title

Garnett had vowed to right the wrongs at PFL Belfast, having been left outraged at a referee’s stoppage when he was defeated by France’s Barius Adiguzel last time out in Lyon.

“As a scouser, we’re basically Irish, so up the Irish!” a beaming Garnett said after handing Clarke the first defeat of his professional career.

“All due respect to Clarke, [but] I really fancied this match-up.

“I’ve been throwing that elbow all the time and landing it every session I do.

“As soon as he went southpaw, I went, ‘Oh my… he’s about to get an elbow!'”

Garnett added that he wants to fight in America before he retires.

He believes he has the potential to be a PFL champion.

The PFL bantamweight title is currently vacant, with Sergio Pettis, Raufeon Stots and Taylor Lapilus all ranked in the top three.
