2021 WNBA champion leaves Sparks for Sky reunion after Elizabeth Williams re-signing

Azura Stevens, who played with the Chicago Sparks from 2020-2022 before spending the last three years with the Los Angeles Sparks, has reportedly agreed to return to Chicago on a three-year contract in WNBA free agency, Alexa Philippou of ESPN reports. The news comes after Chiney Ogwumike of ESPN reported on Friday that the Sky agreed to re-sign Elizabeth Williams for $1.2 million over two years.

It has been a busy offseason for the Sky, who previously traded Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream. A report recently suggested that the Sky are discussing a deal with the Sparks to acquire Rickea Jackson as well.

Stevens and Williams will give Chicago a boost. Both signings should prove to be quite impactful.

Stevens, 30, averaged 12.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per outing with Los Angeles in 2025. She also shot 47.8 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from beyond the arc. Stevens finished second in Most Improved Player voting for the 2025 season.

Williams, 32, has spent the past three seasons in Chicago with the Sky. She averaged 8.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per outing in 43 games played. Williams shot 48 percent from the field as well.

The Sky are in an overall interesting position. The Reese trade suggests they may be rebuilding, but bringing in Stevens and re-signing Williams could be considered win-now moves. If they are able to officially acquire Jackson, that would be another move to help the team as soon as 2026.

Chicago still has work to do with the roster. Nevertheless, the Sky could potentially compete this season.
