1 Ravens rookie who stood out most in 2026 minicamp
Baltimore Ravens rookie minicamp is in the books for the upcoming 2026 NFL season as an incoming crop of players got a chance to display their talent in front of the coaching staff. 11 of those players were draft picks as the Raves went heavy on offense (seven picks) and focused on building protection around franchise QB Lamar Jackson.
The Ravens made their biggest improvements on both sides of the line of scrimmage, bolstering their pass protection with Penn State OG Olaivavega Ioane (RD1, PK14) and Missouri DE/EDGE Zion Young (RD2, PK45). Wide receiver was another focus as they doubled-up with USC’s Ja’Kobi Lane (RD3, PK80) and Indiana’s breakout Elijah Sarratt (RD4, PK115).
This all of course in an effort to maximize the prime window of Lamar Jackson’s capabilities as the team still fights for their chance at the Super Bowl. With head coach Jesse Minter also making his debut, he set the tone for minicamp with high energy and effort throughout the process, hoping to instill the same values into the hopeful rookies.
Still, it was the Ravens’ first pick in Penn State’s Olaivavega Ioane would stood out as uncommon amongst the rest of the minicamp participants. While other players made positive impressions at their respective positions, Ioane seemed like an NFL-ready talent from the moment he stepped onto the practice field.
Olaivavega Ioane is a Week 1 starter with the most important job on the field.

The Baltimore Ravens drafted with offensive line as their highest priority and managed to grab the No. 1 overall-ranked guard in the NFL Draft. It comes as no surprise to see Ioane ranked as such considering he allowed zero (yes, zero) sacks throughout his 2024 and 2025 seasons at Penn State. He’ll automatically plug into this offensive line and can be versatile in moving positions with coaching at the next level. Furthermore, he’ll be a foundational piece in protecting the franchise QB Lamar Jackson.
There’s no question that Jackson didn’t look like his usual self during last season and much of that can be contributed towards his lack of protection. Per ESPN’s Jamison Hensley, “This past season, Jackson had the worst pass protection of his career. He was sacked on 9.8% of his dropbacks, and he faced a pressure rate of 37.1% (percentage of dropbacks where the QB was sacked, under duress or hit), which was the second worst in the league in 2025.”
Furthermore, “In 2024, Jackson produced career highs of 4,172 yards passing and 41 touchdown passes when he had the best pass protection of his career. He was sacked on only 4.3% of his dropbacks (23 sacks on 538 dropbacks).”
Clearly, the Ravens organization recognized Jackson’s regression due to pass protection, making Ioane the clear choice at 14th overall. If he’s able to continue his sack-less streak during his rookie campaign, expect Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to look much more like the contending versions of themselves from just a few years back.
Veteran OT Ronnie Stanley will take Ioane under his wing, pass the torch.
Vega Ioane will have the pleasure of working alongside NFL All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley. Stanley, entering his 11th season, has also won ‘Polynesian Professional Football Player of the Year,’ sharing a common heritage with Ioane and hoping the rookie can follow in his footsteps. The Polynesian bond is strong in the NFL, especially among offensive lineman, but having the opportunity to play alongside a great will exponentially help Ioane’s development.
As it stands, Vega Ioane could be the second-best lineman on the team before even playing a snap, so expect him to fully embrace the role of a leader in his first year. We saw a similar arrival and evolution from Detroit Lions’ Penei Sewell (3x All-Pro, 4x Pro Bowl) as he took the reigns of his offensive line, so don’t be surprised if Ioane serves a similar purpose for his Baltimore Ravens.
