Yankees pitcher Max Fried leaving Orioles game early will concern fans
The New York Yankees are currently one of the top teams in the American League. Still, the have struggled as of late, as the Yankees have dealt with a rash of injuries.
Now, the injury bug may have bitten the Yankees again, this time with concern around starting pitcher Max Fried, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
“Max Fried is done for the day after three innings and 61 pitches. His command was shaky, which makes you wonder if it was a blister issue, something he’s dealt with in the past. More info to come,” Hoch posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Fried was able to pitch just three innings against the Baltimore Orioles, giving up five hits and a walk, while striking out two batters. He would give up three runs, and will be in line for the loss if the Yankees cannot come back from the 3-0 deficit they are currently in, sitting in the top of the fifth inning.
Freid has a long history of injuries. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2014, and then would go to the IL multiple times in 2018 and 2019 due to blisters when playing for the Atlanta Braves. He also missed time in 2020, 21, 22, 23, and 24, all with the Braves. Last season, his first with the New York Yankees, Fried also went to the IL. It was for lbisters on his left index finger.
Fried had been solid this year. He is 4-2 with a 2.91 ER and a 0.95 WHIP heading into this start against the Orioles. The Yankees entered the day at 27-16, two games back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. They will open a three-game set with the New York Mets on Friday
