World number 1s Scottie Scheffler, Nelly Korda each miss cut this weekend
Golf will come for everyone, even the top-ranked players in the world.
This proved to be the case quite literally on Friday as the top-ranked players in the world in either side of the game missed the cut in their respective tournaments. Scottie Scheffler will not be playing the weekend at the Genesis Scottish Open, and Nelly Korda’s Evian Championship is also ending early.
These are notable for Scottie and Nelly in some unique ways.
For Scottie, this marks his first missed cut in 78 events. Consider that the last time he missed the cut was 1,428 days ago at the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship. This was well before Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift went public as a couple for some context… and they reportedly were married last weekend.
It has been a more mortal season for Scottie in 2026 relative to his absurd standards. This is exemplified well by the fact that he will pack up early to head to the Open Championship where he is defending champion.
Nelly Korda on the other hand… is still having a remarkable season. She won both the Chevron and U.S. Women’s Open, but she missed the cut at Evian which was her first of two opportunities following Riviera to complete the Career Grand Slam this season. She will have another opportunity at the British.
This is the first missed cut for Nelly in two years, so not quite the streak that Scottie had going. Still though it is a shocking thing when either of these players is absent from the weekend and the odds of it happening at the same time were pretty small.
Golf takes no prisoners, though.
