World Darts Championship day 13 betting tips: Ally Pally picks for Tuesday 23 December

Tuesday at the PDC World Darts Championship sees two former world champions toe the oche, with Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen the star attractions.

Anderson faces Connor Scutt, before Van Gerwen goes up against William O’Connor. Rising star Josh Rock, a contender for outright glory, is in the final match of the day against Joe Comito.

World Darts Championship betting tips

William O’Connor to beat Michael van Gerwen @ 6/4

Michael van Gerwen played poorly in his first-round meeting with Japanese qualifier Mitsuhiko Tatsunami and was fortunate the Ally Pally newcomer buckled at key moments.

MVG, who lost eight legs against Tatsunami, probably needs to step up significantly on that performance if he is to survive a second-round date with William O’Connor, who has been producing some of the best darts of his life this year.

O’Connor averaged 102.36 in a 3-0 destruction of Krzysztof Kciuk in round one and would probably defeat Van Gerwen if bringing that level to the Palace on Tuesday night.

Possible surprise

Connor Scutt to beat Gary Anderson @ 2/1

Old Father Time is catching up with Gary Anderson, who turned 55 on Monday, and the Scottish veteran is not as dependable a betting proposition as he used to be.

Anderson is a short price to defeat Connor Scutt, but the outsider has bags of ability and is a 29-year-old improving all the time. Scutt has the scoring power to match Anderson in that department and looks good value to cause an upset.

Anderson lost 3-0 to Jeffrey de Graaf at this stage of the last World Championship and may suffer another early exit.

Stats tips to follow

Over 8.5 180s in Danny Noppert v Justin Hood @ 8/11

This season Danny Noppert has been peppering the lipstick in astonishing fashion – he has hit 497 180s in the last 12 months – and the Dutchman should be set to feast on maximums in round two of the Worlds.

The strength of Justin Hood’s game is scoring – he can be dodgy on his doubles – so there seems every chance of there being nine or more 180s in this best-of-five sets contest.

Obviously the bet would be struggling if Noppert wrapped up victory in just three sets, but Hood has probably got enough about him to nick a set, providing more opportunity for these two to show off their maximum-smacking ability.

Daily treble

Jermaine Wattimena (1/2), Danny Noppert (2/9), Josh Rock (1/50) @ 20/23

A Tuesday treble comprising Jermaine Wattimena, Noppert and Josh Rock to win their matches pays 20/23, which seems a bargain considering they should all cruise to round three.

Wattimena has impressed in some elite events this year and possesses the scoring power to beat anybody. He made hard work of seeing off Dominik Grullich in round one, but should be more relaxed in round two and can crush Scott Williams, who has been suffering with dartitis.

This year, Noppert has made the semi-finals of the World Masters, the World Cup, the World Grand Prix, the European Championship and the Grand Slam, as well as the final of the Hungarian Darts Trophy. He is a candidate for the 2026 Premier League and can outclass Hood.

Josh Rock admitted to complacency in his 3-1 first-round victory over Gemma Hayter, so should be fully switched-on against Joe Comito. The Northern Irishman should quickly outgun the Australian journeyman.
