Wizards rumors: Multiple NBA insiders now suggest Anthony Davis trade could happen without playing 1 game
The Washington Wizards were one of the worst teams in the league this season, but they also showed that they were ready to go in the direction of competing. Trading for Trae Young and Anthony Davis were two indicators of that, but there is still a lot of work left to be done.
As for Davis, he knows that the Wizards aren’t ready to compete for a championship right now, which goes against what he’s chasing. That has led many to believe that he could be on the trading block again before even suiting up for the Wizards, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.
“You might have seen our colleague Chris Haynes’ eyebrow-raising revelation on Sirius XM NBA earlier this week, stating that he believes there’s a chance Davis could be traded this offseason before ever playing a game for the Wizards,” Fischer wrote. (You’ll recall that Haynes also first reported months ago that Davis would not play for Washington this season after the trader with Dallas.)
“I’ve heard that same trade sentiment floating around the league ahead of potential contract extension talks this summer and I’ve likewise been advised by sources close to the situation to regard Portland as a potential Davis suitor should it fall short in its Antetokounmpo pursuit.”
“The expectation with regard to Trae Young continues to be that Young and the Wizards will come to terms on an extension this summer no matter what happens with Davis in the nation’s capital.”
Davis understands where he is in his career, and the Wizards are some years away from making real noise unless they speed up their timeline. At the same time, if the Wizards can’t get a good deal for Davis, they’d probably rather keep him for however long they can.
