Wisconsin football flips Texas Tech EDGE commit after Brendan Sorsby drama

Wisconsin football has been going through a rough patch in recent years under Luke Fickell, but they got a big win over one of the top teams in the nation on Tuesday. While the Badgers would like those wins to start coming on the field during the ball, they will take them anywhere they can get them.

On Tuesday, that win came in the recruiting world. Wisconsin flipped Texas Tech commit Brody Pfannenstiel, who is now committed to the Badgers according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Pfannenstiel is an intriguing edge rusher recruit in the class of 2027 who should step in and contribute on a barren Wisconsin roster early in his career. While it won’t be in 2026 or maybe even 2027, Fickell and company are trying to build out a deep roster in the future as they try to climb back up the Big Ten hierarchy.

Pfannenstiel’s flip comes just a day after Texas Tech mutually agreed to part ways with quarterback Brendan Sorsby. Sorsby was initially given a temporary injunction against the NCAA that would have made him eligible to play this fall despite previously gambling on college football games, but a heap of legal action against Texas Tech and a ton of bad press led to the two sides parting ways. Sorsby is now headed to the NFL Supplemental Draft this summer.

Whether the bad press from the Sorsby saga had anything to do with Pfannenstiel’s decision or not will likely never be known, and it is more than likely a coincidence. But the bad press certainly isn’t helping the Red Raiders’ case at the moment.

Pfannenstiel is the No. 55-ranked edge rusher in the class of 2027, per On3 Sports and Rivals. He is the No. 4 overall player in the state of Kansas, so Wisconsin is getting a very talented player.

While there aren’t high expectations in Madison this fall, maybe Pfannenstiel and the rest of the class of 2027 can start to turn things around for what used to be one of the best football programs in the Big Ten.
