Wings coach shares massive AAC update for next season

The Dallas Wings originally were supposed to be playing their home games this season at the Memorial Auditorium in the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center this season, but construction issues put that plan on hold for now. As renovations for the convention center continue, Wings head coach Jose Fernandez recently revealed that the team will be playing their 2027 home games in a familiar locale for Dallas fans, as per Myah Taylor of The Dallas Morning News.

The Wings will eventually move to the Memorial Auditorium, but in 2027 they will be playing their home games at the American Airlines Center, the home of the Dallas Mavericks. The Wings coach revealed that plan during a Zoom call with media members on Tuesday morning.

The current location for Wings’ home games is the College Park Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington. The team has played there since the 2016 season when they first moved to Dallas as the Tulsa Shock and rebranded as the Wings.

Coming into this season, however, Wings fans should have reason to feel excitement about the team. This will be Jose Fernandez’s inaugural season as head coach after turning the University of South Florida into a mid-major powerhouse in Division 1 college basketball.

The Wings also will pair this season’s No. 1 overall pick, Azzi Fudd, with her former UConn teammate and last season’s No. 1 overall pick in Paige Bueckers. The Wings will be looking to get back to the WNBA playoffs this year after two consecutive years of not making the postseason.
