Tigers’ Justin Verlander breaks silence with honest admission after concerning injury news

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander will not come off the injured list like he was initially expected to. Instead, Verlander will remain on the IL due to a hamstring injury, and he is expected to miss “weeks” with the concern. It is a brutal blow for the 43-year-old without question. Verlander made an honest admission while speaking to reporters after the injury news was reported.

“Just really unfortunate, man,” Verlander said, via Hobie Artigue. “Just sucks… This is halfway through a season that I committed to the Tigers for. Nobody envisioned it going this way but I also intend on trying to give it my everything until the season is over. Once that happens, I don’t know man. It’s a different conversation now than it was last year when I kind of seemed to be really healthy.

“Lot of thoughts that I’m going to have to take into consideration… I’ve always said that I want to play until the wheels fall off. I don’t know, maybe they are falling off. I hope not.”

Verlander is seemingly not ruling out the idea of retirement given his injury concern, but he also seemingly would prefer to keep playing if possible. It will be a difficult decision for him to make after the season.

At the moment, Verlander is focused on recovering from his hamstring injury and making an impact for the Tigers at some point this season. Updates on Justin Verlander’s injury status will be monitored and provided as they are made available.
