William Regal pays tribute to late Ted Turner after death

William Regal is paying tribute to the late Ted Turner.

The WWE legend took to X to share his condolences on the late CNN founder, whose death was announced on Wednesday, May 6.

“I’m sad to hear of the passing of Ted Turner. Ted bought me to the US and payed me and allowed me to feed my family for 6 years. Ted also took care of mine and my families green cards. Rest well,” Regal wrote on X.

Turner died at age 87 while surrounded by his family, according to Turner Enterprises, per the Associated Press. The late media mogul is known for his empire, which includes CNN International, the Cartoon Network, TNT, and Turner Classic Movies.

CNN launched the premise of a 24-hour news cycle, which is still a foundation of TV news coverage today.

In addition to being a pioneer in news media, he also had a passion for sports. He owned the Atlanta Braves in the late 70s into the mid 90s and later sold the team as part of the Turner Broadcasting System merger with Time Warner in 1996.

“He effectively transformed the Braves into a team with a national reach and set the table for ways that local teams have now gained more of a national footprint,” said Travis Vogan, a sports media professor at the University of Iowa per AP.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred called Turner a “visionary whose impact on the media landscape transformed how fans experience sports.”

Turner also owned the Atlanta Hawks in 1977 to 2001.

At this time, his death has not been confirmed. In 2018, he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, a progressive neurological disorder.
