Why Kevin Durant is bad fit for Ime Udoka’s Rockets roster, per Channing Frye
The Houston Rockets are trying to figure out how to revamp their roster this summer on the heels of a disappointing playoff series vs the Los Angeles Lakers. The Rockets’ offense crashed and burned in that series, with Kevin Durant sidelined for five out of the six games due to injury.
Even when Durant was on the court, the Rockets were inconsistent at best this season, and recently, former NBA wing Channing Frye broke down why he thinks KD is a bad fit in Houston.
“Ime Udoka is a great coach. Kevin Durant does not fit on this version of the Houston Rockets. Also, Ime is a very intense coach. If you look at what the Rockets were compared to what they are now, you look at what Boston was to what they are now,” said Frye, per the Road Trippin’ Show, via Hoopshype.
Rockets fans might disagree with the sentiment that Udoka is a great coach, considering the sometimes bizarre rotations he put on the floor this season, as well as the team’s clear lack of an offensive plan both with and without Durant in the series vs the Lakers.
Still, it’s clear that the team needs some restructuring in order to unlock the full version of itself. Some have theorized that a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks might be in the cards for Houston this summer to join Durant, while others have speculated that Durant himself could be on to yet another NBA destination following one season in Houston.
Things will start to pick up once the NBA Draft, free agency, and the trade market all open for business in late June.
