When is the England squad announced? Thomas Tuchel to name team for March friendlies in World Cup countdown

England will play two friendly matches during the final international break of the 2025/26 season.

Whilst the annual fixtures played in March may have little significance in other years, 2026 is a very different story.

There is a sense that whoever is selected for this month’s squad is all but certain to be on the plane for the World Cup in the summer.

Sport’s biggest and most prestigious competition kicks off on June 11, so there’s less than three months left for players to impress.

But before England fans flock to Wembley for this month’s matches, Tuchel must name his next squad.

When will the England squad be announced?

England will reveal their squad for the upcoming international break on March 20 at 10am.

Tuchel is then expected to hold a press conference with the media to explain his decisions.

When are England playing?

England will play their first match in four months when they take on Uruguay on March 27.

They then host Japan four days later on March 30.

What happens after the March international break?

Once England have played Uruguay and Japan, the players will return to their clubs for the final weeks of the season.

The Champions League final on May 30 is the last major match on the club football calendar.

England will then enter another international break at the beginning of June for two pre-World Cup friendlies.

New Zealand and Costa Rice will be their final opponents before they begin their campaign in the United States.

Up first for the Three Lions at the World Cup are Croatia in a rematch of the 2018 semi-final that will be played on June 17.

Ghana are their second Group L opponents six days later, and then it’s a clash against Panama on June 27.
