What time is England vs Mexico tonight? Kick-off delayed amid more chaos for last-16 tie

England’s last 16 clash with Mexico has been delayed with Three Lions fans set a very late night.

Chaos ensued on Friday night as FIFA made a U-turn on their decision to bring the crucial game six hours forward.

FIFA were set to switch kick-off to 7pm on Sunday in the UK, but that will no longer happen.

England booked their place in the next round after fighting back from an early deficit against DR Congo courtesy of a stunning Harry Kane brace.

They now face the ultimate test against Mexico in Mexico City but the game has been delayed.

What time is England vs Mexico tonight?

The round of 16 match will take place tonight – Sunday, July 5 – and was scheduled to start at 6pm local time which is 1am in the early hours of Monday morning for UK fans.

But the match has been put back by one hour due to bad weather and is now expected to start at 7pm local time, 2am in the UK.

This tie is being staged at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, the renowned home of the Mexican national team and Club America.

There has been very heavy rain and thunderstorms hitting the Mexican capital city all day.

The severe weather has caused the delays to kick off and could mean further disruption could yet follow.

England vs Mexico: What’s been said?

Mexico have a home advantage in the fixture, benefiting from a longer recovery time and competing at altitude, which the Three Lions won’t be used to.

The North Americans have scored eight goals at the tournament so far and have yet to concede a single goal.

Thomas Tuchel has been vocal on the challenge his squad is about to take on.

He exclusively told talkSPORT: ““I think the biggest one is the home advantage. It’s a proper home advantage. We will play against 89,000 and we will play against the spirit of the whole country in the capital city. So that is the biggest advantage.

“And of course, the altitude, the adaptation physically to the altitude is in their favour because we are not adapted and they are but we will overcome that. I think we have to overcome it. We want to overcome it.

“We accept it. We will not complain about it. It’s just what it is. Makes life, makes things difficult.”
