What A.J. Hinch said about Tigers’ attention-grabbing slump

As the Detroit Tigers have been collapsing recently, the team continues to deal with injuries and underperforming players, which has garnered the attention of manager A.J. Hinch. While fans await any injury update on Tigers star Tarik Skubal, Hinch would speak on the current slump that the team is in.

After the 8-2 loss on Monday to the Cleveland Guardians, it marked the team losing 11 of its last 13 games, which has displayed Detroit’s disappointing offensive output, having scored more than three runs in the last week. Hinch would mention that while he believes some are “giving up on them,” the team is not doing the same with each other.

“I know these guys are battling, and they’re grinding,” Hinch said, via The Athletic. “I know a lot of people are giving up on them. We’re not giving up on each other.”

When it comes to the woes of the Tigers, the Detroit manager says he should be “front and center” in terms of getting the blame.

“I’m responsible for all the ins and outs of the team. I work tirelessly to try to find solutions. I get asked a lot about reactions and assessments, my opinion on things, and what I try to do is find solutions. That’s the manager’s role,” Hinch said

A.J. Hinch on the Tigers’ frustrations

Besides Skubal’s injury for the Tigers, the offense has been a drag, as players such as Spencer Torkelson, all-star Zach McKinstry, Matt Vierling, and Wenceel Pérez are vastly underperforming. However, Hinch is boasting an even-keeled approach to the team’s frustrations.

“If we’re getting frustrated now, then we’re late,” Hinch said. “Where we’re at, we’re going to have to stay together, work together, and really dig ourselves out of this one step at a time. But I worried about frustration a long time ago. This has been a grind for a lot of these guys, and you’re right: Their track record is not matching what we’re getting, and that’s always tough.”

Detroit is currently 20-28, fourth in the AL Central, as the team faces the Guardians for three more games, continuing on Tuesday night.
