Unexpected Tigers player erupts for 3 home runs vs. Astros

The Detroit Tigers got to experience a spectacular night from Colt Keith, who was on fire during his at-bats in their victory over the Houston Astros on Monday night.

Keith is going through the third season of his career in the majors, being active in the hitting rotation. Prior to this campaign, he has recorded 26 home runs, meaning he is occasional with his major highlights.

Not for tonight this time. Going into the game, Keith only recorded one home run throughout his 65 appearances this season. That’s why it was stunning when the third baseman went 3-for-4 in his at-bats, firing away three homers to record six RBI throughout the contest. How Colt Keith, Tigers played against Astros

Colt Keith and the Tigers began their series on a strong note, taking down the Astros 9-3 on the road throughout Game 1.

Detroit got off to a solid start, leading 5-3 after the first three innings. The Tigers’ bullpen finally locked in for the remainder of the series opener, shutting out the Astros’ attack throughout the last six frames of Game 1.

Detroit’s bullpen had balance as six players got to step on the mound in Game 1. Drew Anderson got the start as he lasted for 2.2 innings, striking out five batters while conceding two hits and one run. Meanwhile, Kyle Finnegan earned the win for his second of the season after taking part in 1.1 innings, striking out one batter while allowing just one hit.

Detroit improved to a 30-42 record on the season, sitting at fourth place in the AL Central Division standings. They are above the Kansas City Royals while trailing the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Guardians.

The Tigers will look forward to Game 2 of their series against the Astros. The contest takes place on June 16 at 8:10 p.m. ET.
