Tyler Tanner’s NBA Combine measurements make return to Vanderbilt more likely
Vanderbilt guard Tyler Tanner is one of the more intriguing prospects in next month’s NBA Draft. On talent alone, many believe that he is a clear first-rounder. The question is whether teams are willing to overlook Tanner’s size.
Tanner led the Commodores to the NCAA Tournament after a 27-9 record, including 11-7 in the SEC. They suffered a painful loss to Nebraska in the second round.
In his second year at Vanderbilt, Tanner averaged 19.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 2.4 steals.
He is projected to be a late pick in the first round. At the Draft Combine, he was listed at 5’10” and 167 pounds, with a 6’4″ wingspan and 7’9″ standing reach.
Because of the measurements, Nashville Post’s John Glennon was skeptical of Tanner’s stock.
“Probably not going to do much to help Tanner’s NBA draft value,” said Glennon on X.

It is still up in the air if Tanner will return to Vanderbilt, although it is highly likely.
He, however, could draw inspiration from Los Angeles Clippers guard Darius Garland, who also played for Vanderbilt. Despite his size, Garland has been one of the most lethal playmakers in the NBA.
There are other pint-sized guards in the league, including Chicago Bulls guard Yuki Kawamura, New York Knicks guard Jose Alvarado, and Miami Heat guard Davion Mitchell, to name a few.
Tanner has the speed, vision, and shot-making ability to be an energizer off the bench. He can also be an on-ball disruptor, a role that has become increasingly valuable.
Tanner is hoping to join Garland, Scotty Pippen Jr., Aaron Nesmith, Luke Kornet, and Chris Manon as ex-Commodores playing in the NBA.
