Two Super Bowl-winning Chiefs stars find themselves back in NFL with new teams
Two former Kansas City Chiefs stars are officially back in the NFL.
The Chiefs won three Super Bowls during a five-year span between 2020-2024, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes who is widely considered one of the greatest of all-time.

As is the case across sports, it’s never just one player that makes a championship team.
Mahomes has had the support of many talented players during his journey to the summit of the National Football League.
Wide Receiver Cornell Powell and defensive back Trey Dean III both won at least one ring alongside Mahomes, and they have now found new teams for 2026.
Powell was on the Chiefs’ practice squad when the team won the Super Bowl in 2022 against the Philadelphia Eagles and in 2023 over the San Francisco 49ers.

Dean III was signed to the Chiefs just one day before they took on the Houston Texans in the 2023 Divisional Round, and they would go on to win Super Bowl LVII which earned him a ring.
Powell signs with Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Monday that they had added Powell to their training camp roster.
In the corresponding move, they waived wide receiver Colton Dowell and injured offensive lineman Lorenzo Thompson.
Powell returns to the franchise after spending a week on their practice squad in November 2025.
In between stints in Pittsburgh, he played for the DC Defenders of the UFL and also tried out for the Green Bay Packers.
Powell has appeared in 14 games (three starts) across his NFL career, although he has never been targeted.

He didn’t finish his rookie contract with Kansas City, and waived from the practice squad in November 2024, finishing that season on the now-defending champion Seattle Seahawks.
Dean III signed by Green Bay Packers
Additionally, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported that Dean III is signing with the Green Bay Packers.
Like Powell, Dean had been playing in the UFL with the St. Louis Battlehawks.
Before signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft, Dean was a decorated collegiate player out of Florida.
At the conclusion of the 2023 regular season, the Jets opted not to retain Dean during the playoffs, where he would sign on with the Chiefs.
Kansas City then signed him to a reserve/futures contract shortly after their Super Bowl win, but he was waived during the summer.

After a short stint on the Cleveland Browns practice squad, Dean entered the UFL in 2025.
He was a late season signing for the DC Defenders, ultimately helping the team win a championship as he generated a couple of turnovers during their title run.
