Tottenham told perfect Igor Tudor replacement is ex-Premier League boss who was sacked this season

It didn’t take long for Darren Bent to realise Igor Tudor was not the right fit for Tottenham.

But it’s taken the former Premier League striker even less time to single out his ideal Tudor replacement.

The Croatian is yet to win any of his four matches since taking charge until the end of the season, with each result progressively worse.

A 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie added to the growing calls for Tudor to depart, although talkSPORT understands he is set to remain in charge in the short term.

However, Tudor’s days appear numbered given he is understood to have alienated a large portion of the dressing room, with his divisive treatment of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky likely to have driven that sentiment.

If Tudor is axed, attention will quickly turn towards who will guide Spurs until the end of the season.

Save us, Sean!

According to Bent, there’s only one man for the job.

“I could tell you from the first few games,” Bent said on talkSPORT Drive.

“That’s why I’ve come on here and repeatedly said three games is enough. He’s not getting anything out of the players whatsoever.

“Now he’s probably lost them fully, because they’re like, ‘Look what you did to one of our teammates.’

“I said it before: [Sean] Dyche.

“If you are Tottenham, he’s free, he’s got no job. Go and get him.”

Bent was then asked if Dyche was the ‘only’ answer to solve Tottenham’s woes by Drive host Andy Goldstein, to which he replied: “I think so, right now.

“I know people say Harry [Redknapp], but Harry’s last job was 2017 with Birmingham. No disrespect to Harry, but Harry’s older in age now.”

Red-y or not

As Bent alluded to, Redknapp is no spring chicken at 79 years of age.

Despite having been out of management for nearly a decade, Redknapp insisted he would ‘of course’ pick up the phone should Tottenham come calling.

Yet Bent believed as good as Redknapp had been for Tottenham during his near-four year stint in charge, the game isn’t what it used to be.

“I just think you lose it a little bit,” Bent said.

Harry Redknapp's time in charge of Tottenham

Took over at Tottenham on October 26, 2008

Departed Tottenham on June 13, 2012

Managed 198 games and finished with a record of 98 wins, 50 draws and 50 defeats across all competitions

Led Tottenham to league finishes of eighth (2008/09), fourth (2009/10), fifth (2010/11) and fourth (2011/12)

Named Premier League Manager of the Season in 2009/10

Led Tottenham to their highest finish in the Premier League era (fourth) during the 2009/10 season, although it was bettered when they came second in the 2016/17 season under Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham’s fourth-place finish in 2009/10 season helped the club qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history

“You lose something. The game’s moved on, by the way. That’s one thing.

“You look at how technical the game is now in terms of possession and the way you want to play, it’s probably a little bit away from what Harry was used to.

“I know people will say Harry can galvanise the dressing room and that’s what Spurs need, but there’d be a lot of players in that dressing room that would be going, ‘Who’s Harry?’

“It’s not like he’s current, whereas they know who Dyche is, you know how he operates. I think he’s the one, you go and get him and go, ‘Here’s 18 months, regardless of whether we stay up or go down, take the job.'”

Dyche is ready to rock

Dyche is available for work having been sacked by Nottingham Forest in February.

The 54-year-old finished his tenure with a record of ten wins, five draws and ten defeats across all competitions.

A 0-0 draw with rock-bottom Wolves proved to be the final nail in Dyche’s coffin, although the absence of goals certainly wasn’t for lack of trying from Forest.

Dyche’s side fired off 35 shots on goal in that match, the most ever by one of his teams in the Premier League.

But a breakthrough proved elusive and ultimately cost him his job.

Should Dyche be appointed at Tottenham, it would be the third club he has managed since he left Burnley in April 2022 having had a 83-match stint in charge of Everton before he took the Forest gig.
