Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City predictions
All of a sudden, it feels like Manchester City have momentum in the Premier League title race.
That is a strange statement to make when you look at their recent results. A 2-0 victory over last-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend was their first success in the top flight in 2026.
Prior to that game, City had drawn three consecutive matches, dropping six points against Sunderland, Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Then came a 2-0 defeat by Manchester United in what was one of City’s worst performances in recent memory.
At that point, Arsenal had the opportunity to put their foot down and accelerate away from the chasing pack, led by Pep Guardiola’s men.
They did not take it. Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by Nottingham Forest, before a 3-2 home loss to Manchester United last weekend reduced their lead at the summit of the standings to four points.
Having finished as runners-up for three seasons on the bounce, there is huge pressure on Arsenal to finally get over the line.
That breeds nervousness both in the squad and among the fan base. The anxiety on the terraces at the Emirates Stadium was palpable in the defeat by United.
City must use that to their advantage. They do not necessarily have to overtake Arsenal just yet, but they need to continue sitting on their shoulders, ready to pounce.
Arteta’s team still need to visit the Etihad Stadium. All else being equal, a home win there would reduce the gap between the two sides to one point. With their extra knowhow and experience, City would back themselves to win the title from there.
In the more immediate term, City could be seven points behind Arsenal again by the time this match against Tottenham Hotspur kicks off on Sunday.
Spurs have won four of their last six Premier League games against City on home turf, but the form book is against them this weekend.
Thomas Frank is under massive pressure and a defeat here, while widely expected, would push him closer to the exit door.
Spurs won the reverse fixture back in August but plenty has changed since then. The two goalscorers that day were Brennan Johnson, who has since joined Crystal Palace, and Joao Palhinha, who lost his place in the starting XI a few weeks back. Tottenham need a new hero.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City betting tips
Will Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester City emerge victorious in this one?
Spurs to struggle
Manchester City have been far from perfect this season.
This current team is not able to control games like previous iterations. City can be vulnerable defensively, although the January addition of Marc Guehi will help in that regard.
There is a continued reliance on Erling Haaland for goals. The Norwegian has been less effective of late and City’s output has duly dipped.
Despite all that, it is hard to look past a City win on Sunday. Tottenham Hotspur are stuck in a rut and their record at home is dismal.
Only Wolves have collected fewer points than Spurs in front of their own supporters. City can keep the pressure on Arsenal by beating their arch-rivals.

City to start strong
No team in the division can match Manchester City’s record in the first half of matches.
Guardiola’s side have routinely hit the ground running this season, with City having held a lead at half-time in 15 of their 23 games.
That is a whole five times more than Arsenal and Chelsea, the two teams with the next best records.
Tottenham Hotspur, for their part, rank 15th in the first-half table. When only home matches are taken into account, they slip to 18th.
City will fancy their chances of being ahead when the referee brings the opening period to a close.

Semenyo on scoresheet?
As mentioned above, Haaland is going through a sticky spell.
The Norway international has only scored one goal in his last eight domestic appearances. He has yet to get going in 2026, although he did get his name on the scoresheet against Galatasaray on Wednesday.
Other Manchester City attackers need to step up. Phil Foden is in poor form and Rayan Cherki has been in and out of the team.
Antoine Semenyo can help City to score more goals. Only Haaland and Igor Thiago have put the ball in the back of the net more often than the former Bournemouth forward in 2025/26.
Semeyo struck against Wolves and he can do the same when he faces Tottenham.
