Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander gets 100% real about facing Spurs in WCF

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is looking forward to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s clash with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 Western Conference Finals.

The Thunder have made easy work of their opponents so far, sweeping the Phoenix Suns in the first round and the Los Angeles Lakers in the semifinals. On the other hand, the Spurs took down the Portland Trail Blazers in five games during the first round and the Minnesota Timberwolves in six games during the semifinals.

San Antonio was the superior team during its regular-season duels with Oklahoma City, winning four of their five games. Despite this, Gilgeous-Alexander provided an optimistic stance on his team’s chances of handling San Antonio better in the postseason than they did in the regular season.

“Obviously, a really good team. They’ve been right behind us all year, so we obviously don’t take them in the slightest. They’re a really good team,” Gilgeous-Alexander said during his interview on Prime.

What lies ahead for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has excelled as one of the best stars in the entire league, earning his second consecutive MVP award. This proves fruitful for the Thunder as they continue their quest to being back-to-back champions.

Gilgeous-Alexander was remarkable throughout the 2025-26 campaign, taking part in 68 games. He averaged 31.1 points, 6.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. He boasted shooting splits of 55.3% from the field, including 38.6% from beyond the arc, and 87.9% from the free-throw line.

In the playoffs, he is producing 29.1 points, 7.1 assists and three rebounds per game throughout Oklahoma City’s eight games. They are one series win away from returning to the NBA Finals for the second straight year, something the Golden State Warriors last pulled off during the mid-to-late 2010s.

The Thunder will look forward to their journey in the West Finals, enjoying a great matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. Game 1 of that series will take place on May 18 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
