Thunder HC Mark Daigneault’s 1 note for Ajay Mitchell after dominant Game 3 performance

Mark Daigneault had a significant note for Ajay Mitchell to remember following the standout guard’s performance in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Game 3 blowout win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night.

Mitchell is going through the second season of his NBA career with the Thunder. He made his way up the ranks as he broke out this season, finishing fifth for Sixth Man of the Year.

In 30 minutes of action throughout Game 3, Mitchell had his way against the Los Angeles defense. He finished with a stat line of 24 points, 10 assists, four rebounds, and three steals. He shot 10-of-17 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.

Daigneault reflected on Mitchell’s performance after the game, per reporter Clemente Almanza. He gave the young guard credit for stepping up in big games but wants him to improve in a specific area as the playoffs progress.

“He’s been great in the postseason so far, but he hasn’t been overly efficient yet. I think that’s a little bit of the intensity of the games,” Daigneault said.

Ajay Mitchell delivered in key moments throughout Game 3, helping the Thunder go up 3-0 in their series against the Lakers.

Los Angeles managed to lead at halftime for the second consecutive game, something Oklahoma City has had trouble with. Despite this, the Thunder took full control by outscoring the hosts 74-49 for the rest of the game.

Seven players scored in double-digits for Oklahoma City in the win, including Mitchell. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander followed with a display of 23 points, nine assists, four rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. Chet Holmgren came next with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Cason Wallace had 16 points. Meanwhile, Isaiah Hartenstein and Isaiah Joe provided 12 points each.

The Thunder seek the series sweep when they face the Lakers on the road in Game 4. The contest takes place on May 11 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
