Thierry Henry intervenes by giving Jamie Carragher massage during heated debate with Micah Richards about Mohamed Salah

Things got so heated between Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards that Thierry Henry stepped in and gave them massages live on TV.

Mohamed Salah was of course the source of the pundits’ heated debate after the Liverpool forward grabbed the headlines after Saturday’s draw at Leeds with his shocking post-match remarks.

Salah had been an unused substitute for the second time in three Premier League outings.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot left him out of the starting line-up in each of those recent clashes.

Following the six-goal thriller at Elland Road, Salah claimed he had been ‘thrown under the bus’ by the club before adding he no longer has a relationship with Slot.

The Dutchman subsequently left Salah out of the travelling squad for their Champions League win at Inter Milan on Tuesday.

Salah’s remarks have prompted an ongoing debate over his situation, with Carragher labelling them a ‘disgrace’.

The former Reds defender was involved in a back-and-forth with Richards during CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage.

It even prompted fellow pundit Thierry Henry to give Carragher a massage as tempers flared in the studio.

Their exchange began after Richards admitted his understanding of Salah’s predicament.

Carragher and Richards clash

Asked by Carragher what aspects he understands, the former England international said: “His frustration. All of what he’s done and not coming on in games.

“I would have put him on against Leeds when they needed another goal.

“Leeds were in the game, they were putting pressure (on) and at times they could have been exposed on the counter-attack.

“You know Mo Salah, we know his record in previous years, he can get you goals. Yes, his form’s not been great but I understand his frustration.”

A stern-looking Carragher could be seen with his arms crossed before urging Richards to stop.

He then responded: “Winning 2-0, Leeds come back to 2-2, the ball is in play for about three minutes before Liverpool score to make it 3-2.

“So the only time you could criticise Arne Slot for not putting him on…”

Richards quickly interrupted to argue he was not criticising Slot, prompting Carragher to ask: “Who are you criticising then? He’s the one who decides.

“What I’m saying is, there was a three-minute window between 2-2 and 3-2. You’re not going to bring Mo Salah on when Liverpool are in front, you’re not.

“Because he’s not going to defend on set pieces and he’s not going to run back for you.”

Richards added: “There’s more to the game than set pieces. Mo Salah’s become a player who doesn’t even get on the pitch now. It’s ridiculous.”

Carragher continued, though, explaining: “Hang on, Liverpool have got major problems with set pieces.

“You’ve got to think what the manager is thinking on the side of the pitch: ‘Am I going to bring a guy on who doesn’t defend and is not going to help me on set pieces because he’s so small?’

“So there’s a two or three-minute window, where you could say he maybe should have brought him on there but then Liverpool made it 3-2.

“By the way, by the player who’s playing in his position (Dominik) Szoboszlai. So then it goes 3-2 and Leeds don’t score again until the last kick of the game.”

The pair then continued to argue over each other before Henry attempted to step in by putting his hands in the air.

His input was quickly drowned out by Carragher and Richards’ argument, though, as the former became increasingly agitated.

Carragher reiterated: “We’ve all got that frustration but when we’re looking at the manager and there’s people out there (saying) ‘oh, we should bring him on,’ without looking at the context.”

Richards quickly fired back, causing his colleague to raise his hands and turn towards Henry and presenter Kate Scott.

The Frenchman then walked over and put his hands on Carragher’s shoulders, explaining: “I’m just massaging him.”

Scott was left in hysterics as Carragher told Henry: “Keep going, that is lovely.”

Henry would even offer Richards a massage as well, with the tension quickly cooled inside the studio, with laughter also heard from the crew behind the camera.

Carragher had earlier responded to Salah’s cryptic social media post after he shared a selfie from Liverpool’s club gym.

It came whilst the rest of the squad were in Italy preparing to face Inter in a match they would go on to win 1-0 thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s late penalty.

Salah is set to head on international duty with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations after Saturday’s clash with Brighton.

Slot did not confirm if Salah would be involved in that match on Monday, admitting in his post-match press conference he has ‘no clue’ if he has played his final match for Liverpool.

The former Roma man signed a new two-year deal through to the summer of 2027 back in April.

His previous contract had been set to expire at the end of last season.
