Thierno Barry shares video of Everton fans attacking his friends at Arsenal as police open investigation

Thierno Barry has slammed Everton fans after sharing a clip of his friends being attacked in the away end amid the club’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

The 23-year-old, who came on as a second half substitute at the Emirates, took to social media to issue a scathing statement on the incident.

He posted a six-second clip, where a few Everton fans could be seen punching his friend – with a steward stepping in to try and sort it out.

Shameful scenes

In the following post, the striker posted a statement that read: “This kind of behaviour is not acceptable in a stadium.

“I bring my friends to enjoy a game, and it gets ruined by a few silly people.

“Football should be a place where everyone feels safe and respected.

“This type of attitude has no place in the game and is simply not tolerated in football.

“My friends and the people who were attacked had to be escorted by the Arsenal club’s security staff as well as the police because of fears of retaliation from our supporters.”

It’s currently unclear as to why Barry’s friends were attacked by Everton supporters.

Police have since opened an investigation to look in the matter, with Merseysdie Polic posting on X: “Aware of videos circulating online of an altercation in the away section towards the end of the Arsenal-Everton match.

“We’re working with the Met Police to investigate.”

The Toffees meanwhile have stated: “Violent or disorderly behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in football.

“It does not reflect the passionate and loyal support Everton receives both home and away.

“The club will work with the relevant authorities to establish the facts and take any appropriate action.”

Barry came on in the 69th minute to replace Beto, but was powerless to inspire Everton to claim a result as he watched Max Dowman make Premier League history.

Toff night

For Everton, it turned into a frustrating afternoon as the Toffees missed a chance to take a stranglehold on a European place.

David Raya was a busy man between the sticks – denying Kierna Dewsbury-Hall as well as being forced into a stunning save to keep out Beto.

Dwight McNeil also hit the post in the first half, but with the Premier League title on the line, the Gunners found a way.

Mikel Arteta‘s men weren’t at their best, but his substitutes came up big time.

Dowman was the main one to make a difference as the 16-year-old scored the second goal on the counter-attack following a mazy run up field.

That came after he’d helped create the opening goal for Viktor Gyokeres.

Dowman cut inside from the right and delivered a cross into the heart of the area.

Jordan Pickford came off his line in an attempt to punch it away, but he got nowhere near it, and ended up punching the ball off Piero Hincapie, with Gyokeres subsequently tapping home from close range.

But Arsenal weren’t done there, as there was still time left for Dowman to become the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.

Everton were awarded a corner deep in stoppage time, which Pickford went up for.

The Gunners cleared it as far as the edge of the box, where Dowman picked it up.

He weaved past two players to create the space for a run down to the other end where he fired home into an empty net.

And things got better for Arsenal later on as title rivals Manchester City dropped points against West Ham.

The Hammers produced a magnificent defensive display to get a huge point in their battle to avoid the drop as they moved out of the bottom three.

It also leaves the Gunners nine points clear at the top of the table.
