Tennis stars get into furious row on court after playing ‘point of the year’ at Wimbledon

Things got heated on-court during Wimbledon’s Round of 16 on Sunday afternoon following an incredible five-set match.

After a classic between No.3 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, tensions boiled over on Court 1.

Davidovich Fokina and Auger-Aliassime clashed at the end of their match on Sunday

Auger-Aliassime won the thrilling match 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals and send Davidovich Fokina home.

But after the long clash, it was the latter who appeared to take issue with something the eventual winner had said.

The pair argued as Davidovich Fokina exited the court, with the Spaniard leaning over his rival and speaking to him.

Auger-Aliassime remained seated after winning the match, but he spoke back in what seemed to be a furious altercation.

It was claimed on social media that the Canadian star had said something to Davidovich Fokina at their net greeting after the last point.

But it remains unclear what the heated moment was about.

Eventually, Davidovich Fokina walked away, looking back and saying something else to his opponent as he left.

Auger-Aliassime was left smiling in his seat as things calmed – and the Canadian will now take on Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

‘Point of the year’

The sour ending to the last 16 match at Wimbledon came after an incredible rally that has gone viral on social media.

During the fourth set of the match, Auger-Aliassime and Davidovich Fokina played the ‘point of the year’ at SW19.

With Auger-Aliassime 3-1 up in the set and 30-0 down in the game, he somehow lost a completely frantic 20-second rally.

Davidovich Fokina served and was almost instantly scrambling his way to the net to try to return a neat drop shot.

He made it, but then played one of his own drop shots back to Auger-Aliassime, who managed to return that too.

Then, Davidovich Fokina clipped his return into the air and his opponent smashed the ball into the ground.

The No.22 seed somehow managed to flick that back over the net, before then sliding to the ground to return at the net.

And that wasn’t even the best return of the rally…

Davidovich Fokina then threw himself across the court to remarkably get one more return over the net after Auger-Aliassime looked to smash his shot down the left-hand side of his rival.

Incredibly, his return was so good that Auger-Aliassime was unable to lift his shot over the net with Davidovich Fokina winning the point.

He remained lying on the ground with his arms up in the air in celebration as the Wimbledon crowd went barmy.

Both players smiled at eachother in disbelief at what had just happened, as fans continued to applaud on their feet.

Sadly, that mutual smile would fade at the end of the match, with things ending on a sour note.
