Team USA’s striker ruled out of FIFA World Cup with injury

Tragedy has struck the Team USA Men’s National team just months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament is scheduled to take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. However, with just months left for the tournament, the USA’s striker Patrick Agyemang has been ruled out with an injury.

USMNT and Derby County striker Patrick Agyemang will miss the 2026 World Cup after suffering a serious Achilles injury, as per a statement from the English soccer club Derby County.

“The club can confirm Patrick Agyemang suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury during the first half of the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Stoke City. We’re all with you, Pat. [black heart emoji].”

Agyemang, 25, was part of Derby County’s squad during their game against Stoke City on Monday, Apr. 6, 2026. However, he was soon forced off on a stretcher after clutching his ankle after just 40 minutes into the game. Agyemang was visibly upset and crying on the field after his injury. This injury has now crushed his hopes of playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup as part of Mauricio Pochettino’s United States team.

Agyemang has often been praised and hailed for his dynamic style. He enjoyed a successful campaign in England as a part of Derby County, scoring 10 goals and making three assists. His contributions helped the club secure a place in the playoffs. His incredible form earned him a recall to Team USA’s soccer team last month, where he starred in both friendly games against Belgium and Portugal. With such a crucial injury ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Pochettino will be in urgent need to find a replacement.
